Just completed a turtle bot. I’m a retired engineer. Built it with a 10 year old. He did most of the assembly, following my directions, as I read the documentation. Took about four interrupted hours. I don’t have any complaints about the documentation. Had to back track a couple of times to cut mounting plastic burrs more cleanly. Used an AAA battery, about 1.5 nominal volts, to test function during assembly. Connecting battery in reverse, only causes gears to spin in reverse. No harm. The supplied photocell is 2 nominal volts.Without the 10 year old, I added a normally open push-button as a, nice to have, on/off switch, so it can be turned off in the sun. Needed an additional wire stripper, two 22-24 butt spices, crimper (needle nose will work), heat gun and a multimeter.

Big mistake
This thing sucked..first off it took hours to clip all the parts off sprews and then organized all the little parts yourself. The I had to build the main power plant so my kid could put the rest together. Then of course it doesn’t work in modern lighting scenarios. You need Halogen lighting. After rummaging in the gaagge for a functional bulb, it finally got power but no wheel turning..turns out the main drive gear had a printing issue and a chunk of gear teeth were not binding. Hours of wasted time. And even if it was functional it would only work in the sun because no house hold used bulbs from the 90’s anymore. Save yourself the time.

No as cool as we thought
Instructions where not clear and once we got it done the solar didn’t work. Bought 4 of them to do with grandkids and only one work even after checking our work. It was frustrated for us all.
