I bought this for a bright boy who was turning 8. I thought, oh no, too much, but he had it made in 2 days after his party. He told us how he programmed it with his dad and sent a video. He really enjoyed it. Wow! This is a winner. (I never heard about the lego kit I also gave him.) I’m so pleased the young man enjoyed a gift that engaged him.

Assembly is easy but instructions are a bit sparse.
Assembling this was fairly easy, a #3 phillips screwdriver will be required.The screw driver that came with the kit is a tiny little one that is only used for putting the wheels onto the ends of the motor axles.The printed instruction that come with the kit don’t give a good reference as to where the motor cables plug in, one drawing seemed to indicate what motor is #1 and what is #2, but if you use that to reference how to plug the cables into ports 1 and 2, the motors will run backwards. This is an easy fix, just swap the cables, but it could have been spelled out in the instructions better.The pre programmed obstacle avoidance program does not work well. It is programed to drive in a 30 inch circle until it runs into an obstacle. If it does encounter an obstacle it backs up, turns, and then just makes a loop to run into the obstacle again. You are probably supposed to write your own code to create a program that works better.I didn’t try the line following program yet, the pre printed course is folded up in the box and I didn’t have the time to get the creases out of it so that it lays flat enough to drive on.The remote works good, it has more functions than needed in the basic kit.The software was about a 600 MB download that expands to use almost 2 Gigs of hard drive space when installed.The software is not very intuitive, it looks to be designed to be used with separate instructional materials.The basic design of the software is to build code using visual blocks that you select and click together in the proper sequence to write the code. The different types of functional blocks are pulled from different tabs on the left of the screen, the tabs are labeled as to what type of code is under that tab. (Motor, Sensor, Logic, Math, ETC)You can also write code in C++ and Python, the IDE for this looks and feels a little different than the Arduino IDE, but it has some similar functions.This kit gives a shorter experience to creating a functional design when compared to an Arduino based kit.You build a little robot and can code it without having to worry about the details of the electronic components and hardware interfaces that you would need to use with the Arduino.This would be better for less experienced users as the details of working with discrete electronic components is not needed.

This was a high quality fun project. The instructions were easy to follow and the finished project worked flawlessly. This robot was super fun to build and is a great confidence building hands on project for older kids and teens. The robot build was fun and engaging. It was great sitting back and watching my son enjoy himself learning and engaging in science and coding. Great value for such a rewarding project.

Wir sind von dem kleinen Kerl total begeistert.Ich hatte das Set als Überraschung für meinen Sohn und meinen Mann gekauft, wobei ich glaube, mein Mann hat sich mehr darüber gefreut als der Mini. Die Verarbeitung der einzelnen Teile finden wir sehr gut. Das Metall des Roboters ist dick und biegt sich nicht sofort durch. Auch die Plastikteile haben eine gute Qualität und sollten halten.Die Anleitung ist auf Deutsch und auch für Kinder verständlich. Mit ein bisschen Hilfe und Erklärung, kann der Mini damit umgehen. Für den Preis von 60,- eine klare Empfehlung.

Der WhalesBot Rocky hat bei uns für leuchtende Augen gesorgt – nicht nur bei meinem Neffen (14), sondern auch bei mir. Als Technikliebhaber konnte ich es kaum erwarten, den Bausatz gemeinsam mit ihm auszuprobieren.Der Zusammenbau war ein echtes Highlight. Die Teile sind hochwertig verarbeitet und lassen sich problemlos zusammensetzen. Die Anleitung ist klar strukturiert, sodass wir ohne Schwierigkeiten vorankamen. Besonders beeindruckt hat mich die Möglichkeit, den Roboter über Scratch zu programmieren. Mein Neffe hatte schnell den Dreh raus und konnte eigene Bewegungsabläufe erstellen. Die App ist intuitiv gestaltet und bietet einen tollen Einstieg in die Welt des Programmierens.Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen: Der Roboter hat nur zwei Räder, was ihn auf unebenem Untergrund etwas instabil macht. Eine dritte Auflage schleift über den Boden, was die Beweglichkeit einschränkt. Trotzdem hatten wir viel Spaß mit dem Rocky, und das Konzept überzeugt grundsätzlich.Ein echter Minuspunkt ist jedoch die Preisgestaltung. Es ist sehr ärgerlich, dass einige Verkäufer im Vine-Programm zunächst ihre Produkte zu einem deutlich höheren Preis anbieten, um potenzielle Tester anzulocken. Leider entspricht die Leistung des Produkts nicht dem ursprünglich hohen Preis. Kurz danach wurde der Preis deutlich gesenkt, der Steuerwert für Vine-Testende richtet sich jedoch nach dem alten, viel zu hohen Preis. Diese Praxis empfinde ich als irreführend und ziehe dafür zwei Sterne ab.Ich habe dieses Produkt über das Amazon-Vine-Programm erhalten. Ich hatte zuvor keinen direkten Kontakt zum Verkäufer. Meine persönliche Erfahrung ist die einzige Grundlage für meine Bewertung. Ich habe das Produkt eingehend getestet und meine Eindrücke so aufrichtig, detailliert und verständlich wie möglich dargestellt, als hätte ich es im regulären Handel selbst gekauft. Alle Bilder und Videos, die ich bereitgestellt habe, stammen aus meiner eigenen Nutzung und sollen potenziellen Käufern dabei helfen, sich ein realistisches Bild zu machen. Ich untersage die private Nutzung außerhalb von Amazon.
